A final goodbye

The drive to my hometown is long. Seven hours long.
My Mom had decided to have my Dad's graveside service,
and I wanted to be there. We listened to an audiobook
and that helped pass some of the time.
Once we got over the mountain pass, we descended onto the plains.
There is a reason Montana is known as the Big Sky state! Endless beautiful sky.
At the cemetery, we each released a balloon in memory of my Dad.
I was surprised at the emotion that welled up inside of me as I released my balloon.
We all stood and watched quietly,
even the younger children,
until we couldn't see the balloons anymore.
Goodbye Dad, you will be missed.
